The Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation awarded the Grayson Meals on Wheels mobile soup kitchen a $3,000 community support grant. A former school bus has been transformed into a mobile soup kitchen for the Grayson area after nearly two years of work.
The bus is equipped with a complete commercial kitchen and includes a water storage tank as well as a water heater. Propane tanks and plans for a second generator will make the bus self contained for all utilities.
The mobile unit is currently being used to deliver lunches of hot soup and sandwiches to apartment complexes in the Grayson city limits. This effort targets individuals who can benefit from a nutritious meal who might not otherwise receive one.
The Grayson program currently delivers hot meals each weekday to approximately 50 homebound, elderly individuals.
This unit also will put to service to assist the general community during power outages or other emergency situations.
