OLBH Receives Grant from Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund
Posted on March 3rd 2010OLBH Receives Grant from Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund has awarded Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) a one year grant of $40,000 for the hospital’s Mobile Health Center. It is the sixth year that OLBH has received Avon Foundation for Women funding to support its work on the important issue of early detection of breast cancer, and in recognition of the excellence of the OLBH program.The OLBH Mobile Health Center will utilize the $40,000 to provide mammography services to rural, underserved women in the FIVCO area. “Early detection saves lives,” Jeani Thomas, OLBH’s Women’s Health Service Line Leader, said. “The generous funding of the Avon Foundation for Women will help with our goal of saving women’s lives by promoting detection of breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. With the OLBH Mobile Health Center, we help women take control of their health by learning proper self-exam techniques and by having regular mammograms.” The Avon Foundation for Women and Breast Cancer CrusadeThe Avon Foundation for Women, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families. The Avon Foundation, through the Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund (AFBCF) project, has made the largest contribution ever provided to community-based breast cancer programs in nearly every state across the US with the mission to link medically underserved women to breast health education and screening services. Funding comes from the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, and is raised through a wide variety of special events, product sales, walks, runs, concerts and other marketing initiatives. Since 1992, more than $585 million has been raised and awarded worldwide by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, including more than 1,000 grants to community-based, non-profit breast health programs in the US, such as OLBH’s program. The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund is administered by Cicatelli Associates Inc. to support community-based, non-profit breast health programs across the country. The Fund's National Advisory Board selected the Mobile Health Center at OLBH as one of 129 grant recipients nationwide in the current cycle of Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund grants. These organizations were chosen based on their ability to effectively reach women, particularly minority, low-income, and older women, who are often medically underserved.
